Hydrolysis-Resistant Custom Shaped Silicone Tubing for Steam and Hot-Water Seals
Seals in appliances and kitchenware that sit in hot water, steam or humid heat for years can use Lixing custom shaped silicone tubing: the product page states it is hydrolytically stable and does not become sticky, soft or deformed in long-term use. Before you request a quote, check three specifications: where your part sits within 30 to 80 Shore A, whether the working temperature stays within -45°C to 200°C, and whether platinum or peroxide curing fits the application.
What hot, wet duty does to a seal
Appliance and kitchenware seals often face moisture, heat and cleaning at the same time. If a rubber part slowly turns tacky or soft in that environment, the designed profile can no longer hold its contact force, gaps open up, and a repair often means removing the parts around it.
Four advantages of Lixing custom shaped silicone tubing
A dry, non-tacky surface after long hot, wet service
A seal that stays dry to the touch is easier to assemble and to clean. The basis is the chemical stability statement on the product page: hydrolytically stable, with no stickiness, softening or deformation during long-term use.
Profiles extruded to your drawing that keep their shape
One shaped profile can seal and locate a part at the same time, and hydrolytic stability helps that profile keep its outline over long service. The product page lists round and square sections made to customer drawings, plus rectangular and hollow custom profiles.
One material for both cold and hot zones
Parts of the same unit that see very different temperatures do not need separate materials. The product page gives a temperature range of -45°C to 200°C, with strong ageing resistance and no yellowing in long-term use.
A choice of hardness and cure system
Whether the joint needs a soft, conforming seal or firmer support, the same series covers it. The product page lists typical values of 30 to 80 Shore A hardness, 4 to 10 MPa tensile strength, 200% to 500% elongation at break and 16 to 50 N/mm tear strength, with platinum-cured and peroxide-cured options. The full table is on the custom shaped silicone tube product page.
Where it fits
The product page names electronics, home appliances and kitchenware as application industries. In appliances and kitchenware it suits sealing and protection points that meet moisture and need a profile shaped to the structure. For electronics, flame-retardant and insulating grades, or anti-static and thermally conductive grades, can be formulated on request.
Why hot and wet is harder than humid: the Arrhenius equation
Hydrolysis is a chemical reaction between water and the material, and its speed depends on temperature. The Arrhenius Equation entry in the Chemistry LibreTexts library gives the relationship between the rate constant and temperature:
k = A × exp(-Ea / (R × T))
Here k is the reaction rate constant (s⁻¹ for a first-order reaction), A is the experimentally determined pre-exponential factor, Ea is the activation energy (J/mol), R is the gas constant, 8.314 J/(mol·K), and T is the absolute temperature (K). Because T sits in the exponent, hot water and steam load a material chemically far more than room-temperature humidity, which is also why accelerated ageing tests raise the temperature.
The equation is a concept model only. Ea and A depend on the formulation and the reaction, and the product page does not publish them, so the equation cannot be used to estimate a service life or a guaranteed value for this tubing. It also ignores water diffusion, mechanical stress, detergents and acidic or alkaline media. Confirm real resistance with samples in the actual temperature and medium.
What to send with your inquiry
- The profile drawing and critical dimensional tolerances
- The contact medium and temperature, such as hot water or steam, and how long exposure lasts
- The hardness range and cure system you need
- Any need for flame-retardant, insulating, anti-static or thermally conductive grades
Product page values are typical values, and hydrolytic stability is stated qualitatively without an immersion temperature or duration, so validate representative samples under real conditions. For the dimensions that belong on a drawing when the part crosses temperature zones, see our guide to custom shaped silicone tubing across temperature.
Request samples or a specification review
For seals in hot, wet locations, tubing that stays non-tacky and holds its profile keeps later maintenance simpler. Visit the Lixing custom shaped silicone tube page to ask for a specification review or samples, or email yw@zh-lx.com.
